The Kings XI Punjab saw off a late fight back from Dwayne Bravo to seal a seven run victory over the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Faced with a victory target of 157, the defending champions came up just short despite a Bravo inspired fight back who smashed 30 including two sixes during the final few overs.
It proved to be a disappointing day for the home side as they slipped to 98-6 after MS Dhoni (1) was run out by Nitin Sani in the 14th over as the Kings XI took control of the game.
The visitors posted a total of 156-8 thanks in part to a quick fire half century from Mandeep Singh at the top of the order; Shaun March added 32 but a middle order collapse which saw them lose five wickets in the last four overs.
