Chris Gayle was at his destructive best to help the Royal Challengers Bangalore complete a nine wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The big hitting West Indian smashed 82 runs from just 59 deliveries which included five boundaries and six sixes to help the Royal Challengers cruise past the Indians total of 141-6 with 12 balls to spare.
Stand in skipper, Virat Kohli offered support with a quick fire 36 as the pair shared a 2nd wicket stand of 94 which moved the visitors up into 4th place in the IPL group standings as the race for the play offs heats up.
It proved to be a disappointing day for the Indians after they were put into bat by Kohli as they lost James Franklin (1) and Rohit Sharma (0) inside the opening two overs.
Dinesh Karthik (44) and Sachin Tendulkar (24) offered hope for the home side but their below par total was never going to be enough once Gayle got into his stride.
With four games to go the Indians who are currently sitting in 3rd place should still manage to qualify for the play offs but Harbhajan Singh will be concerned about his teams stuttering form.
