David Hussey scored a vital half century to help the Kings XI Punjab keep their play offs hopes alive thanks to a four wicket victory over the Deccan Chargers at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohal.
Faced with a victory target of 191 the Kings XI had slumped to 149-6 before Hussey and Gurkeerat Singh saw the home side home with a 7th wicket stand of 45.
Hussey led the way scoring 65 runs off 35 balls before Singh took control of the match during the closing stages, smashing 29 runs from just 12 deliveries including four boundaries and a six.
With a victory needed to stay alive in the play off race, the home side started off badly losing wickets at regular intervals before Hussey and Singh calmed the nerves of the home fans.
It proved to be another disappointing night for the Chargers who slumped to their 11th defeat of the tournament despite posting a total of 190-4 after they won the toss and elected to bat first.
Shikhar Dhawan (71) and Cameron White (67) continued their excellent recent form during a 3rd wicket stand of 96 but their effort proved to be in vain thanks to a late comeback from the Kings XI.
