The Delhi DareDevils became the first team to seal a place in the IPL play offs thanks to a nervous five wicket victory over the Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
Having restricted the Kings XI to a total of just 136-8, the DareDevils slowly inched their way to victory thanks to a vital half century from Mahela Jayawardene (56).
Despite the victory the DareDevils, who had lost two of their previous three games looked no more confident at the crease with Virender Sehwag (8), David Warner (14) and Venugopal Rao (7) all going cheaply.
Naman Ojha (34) and Irfan Pathan (19) offered support as the tension mounted during the closing stages as the DareDevils slowly crawled to victory to spark wild celebration in the home digout.
Despite being on top for most of the DareDevils innings, the Kings XI suffered a vital defeat with leaves their hopes of reaching the play offs hanging by a thread after they slipped to their 7th defeat.
Having batted first, stand in skipper David Hussey led the way with a resistant 40 but with wickets falling at regular intervals the visitors were restricted to a total of just 136-8.
