Despite being lead by Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar the Mumbai Indians have often flatted to deceive during the first two IPL tournaments but their signing of Kieron Pollard shows their intent during IPL 3.0.

So far the Indians have failed to set the IPL a light despite having a talented squad. The first season was branding a complete disastrous after Tendulkar missed half the season with a hamstring injury.

Last year in South Africa the Indians were once again also ranís finishing the group stages in 7th place with only the Kolkata Knight Riders beneath them in the standings.

After two poor tournaments the Indians are desperate to break though and reach the knock out stages of the IPL on its return to Indian. They pulled of the biggest signing during the winter by winning a silent bid for West Indies big hitter Kieron Pollard during Januaryís player auction.

Pollard will give Tendulkarís side a powerful middle order big hitter who can change the course of the game as witnessed during the Champions League in October when Pollards stunning assault, scoring 54 runs off just 18 bulls, gave Trinidad and Tobago victory over the NSW Blues.

Along side Tendulkar and Pollard the Indians can call on the batting talents of Sanath Jayasuriya and JP Duminy, although Duminy as been out of form recently he has always shone in the Twenty20 format and will need to be in form if the Indians want to maintain a push for the semi finals.

The Indians also have a talented selection of all rounders including Dwayne Smith and Abishek Nayar who can score important runs down the order. If the top order struggles once again like it did in South Africa the pressure will be on Smith in particular to halt the slide and bat alongside the tail order.

As in previous tournaments the Indians bowling attack looks as frail as ever. With the IPL returning to Indian the Indians will benefit from the spin bowling of Harbhajan Singh but apart from fast bowler Zaheer Khan the Indians will rely too much on all rounders Pollard and Smith filling the gaps especially if Lasith Malinga continues his recent poor run of form.
