Jacques Kallis struck a composed innings of 66 to steady South Africa's ship and ease the Proteas over the finishing line after they were set a target of 160 off 35 overs to earn a second victory in the Super Eights.

South Africa won the toss and decided to field with Andrew White leading the Irish batsmen with an innings of 30.

In reply, the side currently ranked top of the world one-day international rankings got off to a shaky start with AB de Villiers out without scoring off the bowling of Boyd Rankin.

However, the arrival of Kallis at the crease eased South African nerves as he and Graeme Smith (41) put on a second wicket stand of 70 before the captain was caught and bowled by Trent Johnston.

Herschelle Gibbs (6) also fell victim to Boyd but Ashwell Prince (47) and Kallis combined for an unbeaten stand of 80 to move South Africa above England into fourth place in the Super Eight table.
