India hit back after early shock

Source -

India shrugged off the loss of a wicket to the first ball of the game to reach 113-1 at lunch on day one of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong.

Wasim Jaffer was bowled for a duck after offering no stroke to Mashrafe Mortaza's opening delivery.

But that was the home side's sole success as Dinesh Karthik and skipper Rahul Dravid shared a century stand.

They collected 18 boundaries between them as Karthik progressed to 54 not out at the interval, with Dravid on 52.

India, meanwhile, were boosted by the return of veteran stars Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble, who were rested for the one-day series.

But there was no place for either VVS Laxman or Yuvraj Singh as they opted for a side including five bowlers, with off-spinner Romesh Powar winning his first cap.

Bangladesh also had a debutant in their line-up as they rewarded all-rounder Saqibul Hasan for impressive performances at the recent World Cup with a place in the middle order.

Batsman Mohammad Ashraful was passed fit after spending time in hospital with a fever in the build-up to the game, but Tushar Imran missed out because of a similar problem.
