Hopes out of Twenty20 clash

James Hopes's breakthrough tour of India has come to a premature end, with a hamstring strain ruling him out of the Twenty20 match against the homes side tomorrow.

The Queensland all rounder suffered the injury in the final match of the Future Cup limited-overs series against India at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.

"James won't be right for the Twenty20, he has strained his hamstring," Australia coach Tim Nielsen said.

The complaint is a disappointing way for Hopes to finish the tour, on which he has been a very handy contributor in all seven matches.

He made handy late forays with the bat at No.7, averaging 27.20 at a strike rate of 120.35, and collected six wickets at 29.16, with an economy rate of 4.60, with his nagging medium-pace bolwing.

Opening batsman Matthew Hayden is still trying to prove his fitness for the final match of the tour, the left hander having his first net session since sustainign a hip injury last week.
