England have announced that Michael Lumb will join the Ashes winners Twenty20 squad after Craig Kieswetter was ruled out of next weeks internationals through injury.

The Somerset wicket keeper will under go minor surgery due to an abscess and although he will miss both of next weeks Twenty20 Internationals against Australia Kieswetter is expected to be fully fit ahead of the England Lions tour of the West Indies.

Twenty20 World Cup winner, Lumb, who is currently in Australia playing for the Queensland Bulls in the KFC t20 Big Bash will join up with the squad ahead of their match against a Prime Minister's XI at the weekend.

"It is unfortunate that Craig has been ruled out of the twenty20 series but having performed well during his time with the England Performance Programme this winter he will have an opportunity to make a full recovery,” said ECB National Selector Geoff Miller.

“Michael Lumb has already demonstrated his ability in twenty20 cricket and it is good to have him back playing cricket again after a long term injury. We are delighted to be able to call a player of his calibre into the squad," he added.

The ECB also announced that Ashes winner James Anderson will miss the t20 clashes and ODI series after playing a major role to help England retain the Ashes.

"James Anderson will be returning to the UK for a complete break from cricket for ten days," said England Team Director, Andy Flower.

“He has had a heavy workload so far this winter, playing in all five Tests and we feel that he will benefit from a short rest period to ensure that he is fresh for the second half of the Australia ODI series and the World Cup which follows shortly after,” he added.
