West Indies eye revenge against Pakistan

Aaron Moores | cricket20

The West Indies will have an early chance to gain revenge over Pakistan after their 10 wicket defeat in the World Cup quarter finals lat month in Bangladesh.

With that defeat still fresh in their minds, the West Indies Cricket Board have made sweeping changes to the squad dropping Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

The decision to drop the quartet may have been controversial but the board are now looking towards the future with the call up of newcomers Danza Hyatt, Krishmar Santokie, Ashley Nurse and Chris Barnwell.

Despite missing Gayle and Pollard the Windies will look towards Hyatt and Barnwell to fill the void while Santokie and Nurse will bolster the home sides bowling attack.

The West Indies have also brought 30-year-old Marlon Samuels back into the fold for the first time since he was banned by the ICC for two years in 2008 for links to Indian bookmakers.

The visiting Pakistan team are also going through a transition period after the spot-fixing scandal last summer during the teamís tour of England which rocked the cricketing world.

Despite the worlds media focused on their every move, new skipper Shahid Afridi has done an amazing job to focus the squad and this was evident during the World Cup where Pakistan reached the semi finals.

West Indies - Darren Sammy (captain), Christopher Barnwell, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Andre Fletcher, Danza Hyatt, Ashley Nurse, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Krishmar Santokie, Lendl Simmons.

Pakistan - Shahid Afridi (captain), Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hafeez, Taufeeq Umar, Ahmed Shehzad, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Hammad Azam, Usman Salahuddin, Tanvir Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Abdur Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Salman, Sadaf Hussain.
