New Zealand restricted the West Indies to 126 for seven wickets in their Twenty20 cricket match at Eden Park tonight.
The West Indies found it tough going in their first Twenty20 international, starting slowly and losing wickets regularly as they tried to increase their scoring rate.
The visitors were just 28-2 after eight overs, with the batsman finding hard to score off fast bowler Shane Bond in particular.
Opener Chris Gayle tried to get with the job in the early overs, hitting two early fours before being caught at mid on by Nathan Astle attempting another one off Bond in the fourth over.
Runako Morton was out shortly afterwards, with Dwayne Smith run out shortly after.
Daren Ganga, after a slow start, increased the tempo before he holed out to James Franklin at deep square leg off Styris, who took two wickets but was the most expensive of the bowlers.
Wavell Hinds and captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul put on a useful partnership before Hinds was run out at the bowler's end after Chanderpaul did not answer a call following a shot to Hamish Marshall at short third man.
Chanderpaul and Bravo also put on a useful partnership but none of the batsmen was able to find the boundary often enough.
New Zealand allrounder Chris Cairns did not take a wicket in his final international appearance but he did make a contribution.
He ran out Smith in his follow-through with a backhand throw after Smith had been called through for a quick single, and he caught Denesh Ramdin off Bond in the last over of the innings.
