England collapse hand Windies the victory

Felix Austin | cricket20

Englandís successful summer ended on a sour note after they suffered a batting collapse to hand the West Indies a 25 run victory in a low scoring thriller at the Brit Oval to bring the curtain down on the English cricket season.

Having crushed the visitors on Friday night by 10 wickets, England suffered a rare batting failure which saw them collapse to a total of just 88 to hand the West Indies a series tying victory.

Faced with a target of just 114, few would have expected England to fail in their run chase but the West Indies bounced back from another poor batting display to stun the home side.

Marlon Samuels (35) and Johnson Charles (21) laid the foundations but with a score of just 113-5 to defend, England seemed certain to record another crushing win.

Garey Mathurin (3-9) lead they way, recording the best ever t20 figures by a player on debut as Englandís top order failed to fire on a slow turning pitch at the Brit Oval.

Ben Stokes (31) offered some resistant but with England reduced to 52-5 his cameo wasnít enough to lift the home side in innings which included four run outs as the current t20 World Champions get more and more desperate in the closing overs.
