Brendan McCullum was at his ruthless best to help New Zealand cruise to an empathic 10 wicket victory against Zimbabwe in a one sided match at the Harare Sports Club.
The leading run scorer in t20 international cricket increased his tally to 1181 runs thanks to an unbeaten 81 which included five boundaries and six sixes to help the Kiwis take a 1-0 lead in their best of two series against Zimbabwe.
Faced with a victory target of 124, McCullum and opening partner Martin Guptill (40) shared an opening stand of 127 to seal victory with 39 deliveries remaining.
It proved to be a disappointing day for the hosts after they were restricted to a total of just 123-8 thanks to some impressive bowling from Kyle Mills (2-15) and Natham McCullum (2-17).
Brendan Taylor (50) gave the Zimbabweans hope with an unbeaten half century but with wickets falling at regular intervals, Taylor’s cameo wasn’t enough to help the hosts post a total which was defendable.
