India’s preparations for the t20 World Cup got off to the perfect start thanks to a 39 run victory over Sri Lanka in a one sided match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
With just over a month to go before the start of the tournament, India will be buoyed by their performance after they cruised past Sri Lanka thanks to an impressive display with the bat from Virat Kohli.
Kohli smashed eleven boundaries and one six to help India record a total of 155-3 after they were put into bat by Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene.
Faced with a tricky run chase, the home side lost Tillakaratne Dilshan (0) and Upul Tharanga (5) inside the first three overs and despite Jayawardene (26) steadying the run chase Sri Lanka never challenged India’s total.
Ashok Dinda (4-19) and Irfan Pathan (3-27) lead to help India restrict Sri Lanka to a total of just 116 to seal victory at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
