Angelo Mathews smashed a quick fire 35 to help Sri Lanka take the lead in their two game t20 International series against Australia thanks to a five wicket victory at Stadium Australia in Sydney.

The all-rounder smashed three boundaries and one six to help Sri Lanka chase down a victory target of 138 with seven balls to spare after the visitors had slipped to 69-4 in the 10th over.

Thisara Perera (19) sealed the victory with consecutive sixes off the bowling of Ben Laughlin (0-46) in the penultimate over much to the delight of the Sri Lanka fans in the crowd at Stadium Australia.

It proved to be a disappointing day for the Aussies who could only manage a total of 137-3 thanks in part to a man of the match performance from David Warner who smashed 90 runs from just 62 deliveries.

The opener dispatched five boundaries and three sixes to end the innings 90 not out to help the Aussies recover from 31-2 after the early loss of Aaron Finch (1) and Shaun Marsh (6).
