Big hitting England romp to 40 run victory

England cruised to an empathic 40 run victory to kick start their tour of New Zealand in commanding style after a high scoring match at Eden Park in Auckland to go 1-0 up in their three game t20 International series.

Eoin Morgan (46) and Luke Wright (42) led the way as England recorded a massive total of 214-7 to beat their previous t20 best of 202-6 against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2009.

England were helped along by the Kiwi’s who dropped five catches as the tourists smashed 15 sixes to leave the hosts needing 215 runs to secure an unlikely victory.

Faced with such a large run chase the Kiwi’s were never in contention despite a quick fire 44 from Martin Guptil who smashed three boundaries and two sixes.

Colin Munro enjoyed a brief cameo of 28 which included three sixes but with wickets falling at regular intervals England remained in control to secure a simple victory after the hosts were restricted to a total of just 174-9.
