State Canterbury Wizards clinched a bowl-off victory over State Auckland Aces at Eden Park Outer Oval.
In a State Twenty20 first, the Wizards took out a 5-3 victory after the scores were tied in the match.
Batting first, Paul Hitchcock top scored for the title holders from the top of the order with 41.
Rob Nicolís unbeaten 34 and 23 from Kyle Mills lifted the Auckland score into three figures after Canterbury had pegged their hosts back to 74 for six.
Mills then removed Johann Myburgh in the first over of the Canterbury response, but Michael Papps (20) and Peter Fulton made starts.
Chris Harris and Kruger van Wyk remained unbeaten in a 52-run partnership, but tight death bowling from Mills and Hitchcock ensured a dead heat.
Hitchcock then gave Auckland an early lead in the overtime period, but the Wizards ended on top to ensure their first win in the competition.
