Jeetan Patel claimed three wickets as State Wellington Firebirds defeated Canterbury Wizards to remain in the hunt for a place in the State Twenty20 final.
Patel scored a Twenty20 career best of three for 17 to limit the visitors to 114 at the Allied Nationwide Finance Basin Reserve.
Michael and Neal Parlane then steered the Firebirds out of trouble early in their reply to secure a seven-wicket victory with 2.4 overs remaining.
Peter Fulton and Johann Myburgh top scored with 31 but the Wizards, coming off back-to-back wins, faltered.
Kruger van Wyk made an unbeaten 25, but Patel led the figures in an economical Wellington attack.
The Firebirds lost Stephen Fleming (seven) and Grant Elliot (no score) within three balls.
But opener Michael Parlane (37) then enjoyed a stand of 66 with his brother Neal to put the hosts in sight of victory.
The latter remained unbeaten on 44, Jesse Ryder making 19 from 11 balls, as Wellington secured the points.
