The Central Stags defeated the Northern Knights by five wickets in the State Twenty20 final at New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park to claim their first Twenty20 Title.
Leg spinner Robbie Schaw returned match-leading bowling figures of three for 31 as the Knights were restricted to 148 for eight, having been sent into bat by Stags captain Jamie How.
Blackcaps seamers Jacob Oram and Michael Mason took two wickets.
Mark Orchard, elevated to opener in the absence of the injured Daniel Vettori, top scored for the Knights with 33.
Daniel Flynn (21) and BJ Watling (24 not out) were next best as the home seam attack, and leg spinner Schaw, maintained control.
The CD reply was well paced, the opening stand of 52 between How (29) and Geoff Barnett (36) paved the way for victory.
Bruce Martin struck twice, bowling Ross Taylor (13) before Orchard took a fine diving catch deep on the cover boundary to dismiss Mathew Sinclair (26).
But Oram finished off the contest in typical fashion, striking a huge six to finish 36 not out and seal the title for the home team and top seeds with three-and-a-half overs to spare.
