Owais Shah hit a stunning 65 from just 29 balls to help the Wellington Firebirds to a comfortable seven wicket win over the Canterbury Wizards at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
The Firebirds were set 163 for victory by the Wizards and with Shah smashing 7 sixes during his innings that total was within easy reach.
Shah arrived at the crease with the Firebirds well paced at 70-2 after a good start by Paul Hitchcock (23) and Cameron Merchant (30).
Supported by James Franklin (14) Shah made easy work of the Wizards bowlers in dramatic fashion.
Earlier, helped by Shannan Stewart's 57 from just 33 balls the Canterbury Wizards had scored a competitive 162 which looked like it might have been a match winner before Shah's fireworks.
