Firebirds win the battle of last place teams

The Wellington Firebirds beat the Canterbury Wizards by 7 runs to leave the home side rooted to the bottom of the HRV Cup after reaching the final last year.

Chasing 163 for victory the Wizards got off to a good start before collapsing to 54/5.

Johannes Myburgh and Craig McMillan enjoyed a sixth wicket partnership of 75 for the Wizards but the damaged had already been done early in the innings.

Cameron Merchant was the star for the Firebirds earlier in the night smashing 57 off 44 balls to set up the win.
