Taylor helps Stags cruise to HRV Cup glory

The Central Stags cruised to a crushing 78 run victory over the Auckland Aces to claim the HRV Cup title in front of a huge crowd at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth.

The Victory for the Stags also guarantees them a place in this years Twenty20 Champions League which takes place in October.

The Aces were set a target of 207 for victory by the hosts and their run chase got of to the worst possible start losing opener Lou Vincent in the first over.

Martin Guptill (0), Scott Styris (0) and Ravi Bopara (3) soon followed to leave the visitors 9/4 and in serious dangers of a crushing defeat.

Jimmy Neesham flourished with the bat scoring 39 but the damage had been done at the start of the innings and the Aces tailorder were unable to keep the Stags at bay ending 78 runs short of their target.

The victory was set up by the Stags batsman earlier in the day as they attacked the Aces bowlers dispatching them to all parts of the ground to score 206 runs.

Peter Ingram started the innings well smashing 54 runs from just 36 balls to give the Stags the perfect start before Ross Taylor punished some undisciplined bowling scoring a quick fire 80 from just 30 balls,

Taylor's knock included 5 fours and 8 sixes. He was supported by Kieran Noema-Barnett (49) as the pair enjoyed a 133 run partnership which left the Aces with a mountain to climb.
