The Central Stags started their HRV Twenty20 Cup defence with a comprehensive 78 run victory over the Northern Knights at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
Englishmen Ian Blackwell (45) and Mike Yardy (32) lead the way for the Stags; helping them banish memories of a disappointing Twenty20 Champions League tournament thanks to a impressive performance at Seddon Park.
Big hitting all rounder Blackwell top scored with a quick fire 45 from just 24 balls, which included 3 fours and 3 sixes to help the Stags reach 176 – 5 after they slumped to just 25-3 after 3.1 overs.
Having been set an imposing run chase the Knights failed to trouble the Stags thanks to seam bowler Michael Mason who picked up 3 wickets as the home sides top order collapsed.
Despite a cameo innings from Brad Hodge (35) the Knights failed to impress with only middle order batsman Bradley-John Watling (21) offering any resistant as the Knight were bowled out for just 99 with 10 balls remaining.
