The Wellington Firebirds claimed a thrilling 3 wicket victory over the Otago Volts at the Basin Reserve in Wellington after holding their nerve to seal victory with just two balls to spare.
Australian Darren Wright hit the winning runs to help the Firebirds successfully chase down the Volts victory target of 154 thanks to an impressive innings by Aaron Redmond.
Opener Redmond smashed 85 runs from just 54 balls and with support coming from Neil Broom (23) the Volts reached 153-6.
In reply Michael Pollard (32) and Stewart Rhodes (49) lead the run chase before a middle order collapse after Neil Wagner picked up two quick wickets to set up a thrilling finish.
With the game in balance Rhodes steered the Firebirds towards victory before Wright won the match with a boundary in the last over.
