Brad Hodge scored an impressive 68 to help the Northern Knights register a crushing 9 wicket victory over the Otago Volts at the Centennial Park in Oamaru.
Faced with a run chase of just 133 Hodge and Brad Wilson (58) built a second wicket partnership of 127 after Australian David Warner (4) was caught by wicketkeeper Derek de Boorder at the end of the second over.
The pair smashed 13 fours and 7 sixes during their match winning performance which saw the Knights move into first place in the HRV Twenty20 Cup group standings.
Having been put into bat the Volts got off to a poor start losing five early wickets before a partnership of 50 between Ian Butler and de Boorder gave the Volts hope of setting the Knights a large run chase.
The Knights had other ideas though as Butler (26) and de Boorder (23) were both dismissed in the space of 2 balls thanks Bradley Scott who picked up the wicket of Butler and Warner who ran out de Boorder to leave the Volts 115-8.
Neil Wagner added a vital 13 runs to help the Volts reach 132 but despite Butler and de Boorder heroics the Knights cruised to victory.
