The Warriors host Ahmed Amla’s Dolphins tonight at Buffalo Park from 6pm in the exciting biff-bang, wallop version of cricket, their second Standard Bank Pro20 series match of the season.
There is no doubt that, with only five round-robin matches being played this time round, no team can afford to lose any match in the series, and stand-in captain Arno Jacobs’ team are already on the back foot after losing their opening match against the Eagles in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.
They will need to go all out for valuable points tonight.
The Warriors’ two newcomers, Andrew Birch and Corbyn Dolley, had a miserable start to their franchise careers, ending with figures of 1/38 off four overs and 0/29 off two overs respectively, while the more experienced paceman Lonwabo Tsotsobe was hit for 30 off three overs.
Part-time spinner Jacobs surprised with 5/26, and he and Johan Botha (2/22 off four overs) were able to restrict the aggressive Eagles batsmen to some degree.
The dangermen for the Dolphins are sure to be openers Doug Watson and Imraan Khan, who both waste precious little time in getting going, and renowned big-hitter Lance Klusener, always entertaining to watch, while Proteas top-order Test batsman Hashim Amla will be keen to prove to the national selectors that he is no slouch with the bat in this type of game.
It should be a ripper tonight with 40 overs of the brightest cricket on view.
The gates open at 4pm and the match starts two hours later.
