Veteran opener Doug Watson scored a career-best 62 from 43 balls to anchor the Nashua Dolphins to a competitive total of 165-6 against the Highveld Lions in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Wednesday.
Watson, often regarded as too slow for the most explosive form of the game, answered his critics with a well paced innings which set the home side up for an even more impressive score before a late collapse and some excellent death bowling from the Lions kept the Dolphins in check.
Just 25 runs came from the final five overs as Tyron Henderson and Gerhard de Bruin found the perfect length on a slowish pitch.
Imraan Khan (25) and Hashim Amla (36 from 30 balls) also made significant contributions but Dolphins skipper Ahmed Amla was left a frustrated spactator at the non-striker's end for much of the closing four overs finishing unbeaten on 25 from just 16 balls as wickets fell at the other end.
