Easy work for Cobras in Kimberley

Top-class half-centuries by Henry Davids and Benji Hector, in a record stand, carried the Nashua Cape Cobras to an easy victory over the Gestetner Diamond Eagles in their Standard Bank Pro20 match in Kimberley on Friday.

Davids and Hector savaged the Eagles bowling in a partnership of 154 off 96 balls, the biggest in Pro20 history. Davids raced to 93 not out off just 52 balls, driving with tremendous power as he picked up nine fours and four sixes.

Hector served as a brilliant ally, taking fewer risks but still scoring exceptionally briskly with 72 off 47 balls, with three sixes.

The pair played with tremendous composure, considering that they were thrown together with the Cobras on 32 for two after four overs, chasing 188.

Davids settled the result in the 16th over when he gorged himself on the leg-spin of Jacques Rudolph, scoring 22 runs, which included successive sixes straight over the sightscreen and out of the ground.
