Nashua Titans openers Gulam Bodi and Faf du Plessis smashed the Nashua Dolphins bowling to all parts of Willowmoore Park to help post a total of 191 for four in a Standard Bank Pro 20 match on Wednesday.
Earlier a massive downpour threatened to end the match before it started. By the time Bodi and Du Plessis were done with a record 130-run opening stand off only 11.2 overs, the Dolphins were rueing that the rain had stopped. Bodi scored 70 and Du Plessis 76.
All it rained after that was boundaries. Bodi raced to his half-century off only 24 balls, which included six fours and three sixes.
Du Plessis followed shortly afterwards, taking a pedestrian 28 balls to reach the milestone by comparison. He only had 16 off 16 balls, but scored the next 34 off 12 balls, including three fours and a six off four consecutive Lance Klusener deliveries to reach his half-century.
Both players rode their luck at times with Bodi being dropped twice and Du Plessis once as the Dolphins dropped a total of five catches.
Bodi was the first to fall, run out when he and Du Plessis got into a horrible mix-up. His runs were scored off 38 balls with nine fours and three sixes.
Du Plessis continued to move along swiftly in the company of Albie Morkel, but was eventually succumbed to left-arm seamer Yusuf Abdullah.
Dolphins wicketkeeper Darren Smit took a fine diving catch to send Du Plessis back to the pavilion having faced 43 balls with 10 fours and three sixes.
