Western Province/Boland posted a useful 129 all out in their season-opening Pro 20 match against the Highveld Lions at the Wanderers on Friday.
The visitors won the toss and decided to bat on a perfect evening for runs in front of a large crowd at the Bullring and recovered well after a difficult start, but ultimately failed to bat through their overs.
Thanks to come accurate bowling from seamer David Terbrugge, who took two for 19 in his opening spell, the visitors slumped to 28 for three before JP Duminy and Thami Tsolekile steadied the ship with a useful 62-run fourth wicket partnership.
Duminy led the assault for WP/Boland, scoring 43 off 36 balls, which included six fours. Duminy was run out with some sharp work by Adam Bacher who fielded off his own bowling and then turned and threw at the stumps on then non-striker's end that left Duminy short of his ground.
Tsolekile compiled an aggressive 35 off 28 balls with five fours while Andrew Puttick (19) and Vernon Philander (12 not out) were the only other ment to reach double figures.
Medium-pacer Eugene Moleon was the man who made the difference later in the innings for the Lions with some accurate bowling at a time when it looked as if WP/Boland were about to run away with the match - or at least the innings.
Moleon claimed two for 12 with the wickets of Renier Munnik (4) and Rory Kleinveldt (2) just as the visitors were ready to launch a last gasp attack on the bowlers.
Terbrugge then mopped up the tail, removing Quinton Friend (0) and Charl Willoughby (0) with successive deliveries to end with impressive figures of four for 20 - the second best figures in the history of the competition.
