Justin Kemp lived up to his reputation as the most consistent and deadly striker of a cricket ball in the country with an unbeaten, match-winning 85 to lead the Nashua Titans to a thrilling victory over the Nashua Dolphins in their Standard Bank Pro-20 match at Willowmore Park in Benoni on Sunday.
Kemp blasted three fours and eight sixes in his stunning counter-attack to overhaul the Dolphins imposing total of 200-4 which was set up by Shaun Pollock's equally exciting innings of 59 from just 26 balls including eight fours and three sixes. Kemp was even more deadly however, reaching 85 not out from just 39 balls with three fours and a remarkable eight sixes.
Opener Kyle Smit kept Pollock company in a second wicket stand worth 87 for the visitors after the early loss of captain Hashim Amla (4) and watched in awe as the former Proteas skipper lashed the bowling to all parts of the ground.
Pollock later bowled tidily to confirm his readiness for the third and fourth Tests against the West Indies. He will fly out to join his national team mates in Barbados and Antigua in the next two days.
Smit's own 62 was scored from just 49 balls with seven fours and a six while Lance Klusener contributed a brisk 18 from just nine balls with a pair of fours and a six.
But the Dolphins' collective effort came to nothing when Kemp tore into the attack from the word 'go' taking a particularly heavy toll on Hashim Amla's older brother, Ahmed, whose three overs of very ordinary lob-spinners earned him a couple of wickets but cost a critical 45 runs.
