Nashua Western Province Boland saw their hopes of a semi final place in the Pro20 disappear at Newlands on Sunday when they crashed to a dismal 114-9 and watched helplessly as the Nashua Titans cruised to an eight-wicket victory in just 15 overs to secure a bonus point and, crucially, a home semi final.
The Titans have been infuriatingly inconsistent for much of the season but there was no questioning their nerve or big match temperament during a match they have to win to make certain of a semi final place.
Dale Steyn was in outstanding form with pace, swing and great control earning him figures of 2-10 in his four overs. His form was compelling and, just as when he made his international debut five months ago, international cricket once more beckons.
Justin Kemp was just as impressive with a return of 3-19 in his four overs while none of the home side's batsmen were able to cope with the swinging ball.
Renier Munnik top scored with an unbeaten 26 from 22 balls but it was hardly likely to frighten the big-name, big-hitting Titans batting line-up. There were just two other scores in the 20s for the side, Wian Smit making 21 and Derrin Bassage a painstaking 20 from 36 balls.
Goolam Bodi opened the innings in place of Albie Morkel who ruptured ankle ligaments while fielding and made a brisk 47 from 43 balls to set the platform for victory. Morkel, meanwhile, is facing a rehabilitation period of anything between three and six months.
Zander de Bruyn (24*) made certain there were no late wobbles for the Titans while Kemp finished the game in typical fashion with a pair of sixes against Paul Adams to set up a semi final against the Lions at Supersport Park.
