Ireland collapse hands Afghanistan famous win

Mohammad Nabi helped Afghanistan record a famous 13 run victory over Ireland in the second of today's Twenty20 World Cup qualifies in the United Arab Emirates.

The all rounder smashed 43 runs from just 25 balls to help Afghanistan recover from 97/6 to set the Irish a run chase of 140.

The Irish, who were the favorites to claim a place in the World Cup coming into the qualifies, fell 13 runs short despite a gallant 35 from skipper William Porterfield.

The Irish had got off to a good start in their run chase thanks to Porterfield who smashed a quick fire 35 from just 23 balls but when the skipper and Andre Botha were both bowled by Karim Sadiq it started an Irish collapse which saw them fall to 78/5.

Trent Johnston kept the Irish hopes alive with a brisk 18 before he fell in the 19th over with Ireland still needing another 15 runs for the victory.

Hameed Hasan picked up the wicket of John Mooney (9) in the last over before Peter Connell (0) was run out to spark mass celebrations from the Afghans.
