Netherlands prove to strong for Canada

The Netherlands started their Twenty20 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 6 wicket victory over Canada at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The Dutch proved to strong for the Canadians reaching their target of 143 with 6 balls to spare with Bas Zuiderent staring with the bat scoring 43 to seal the victory.

Although the Canadians took 5 wickets they allowed the Dutch to much time to settle in as Alexei Kervezee (39), Eric Szwarczynski (25), Peter Borren (12) and Ryan ten Doeschate (17) all made contributions to the total.

Earlier, after winning the toss Canada batted first and got off to a awful start losing openers Rizwan Cheema (3) and John Davison (0) inside the first over.

Cheema retired hurt and Davison was bowled by Edgar Schiferli to leave the Canadians 4-1 and in deep trouble. Although Geoff Barnett (36) and Ian Billcliff (37) contributed useful scores Canada know their total of 142 would be hard to defend.
