Yasir Arafat ruled out of Twenty20 World Cup

Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat has been ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies at the end of this month due to a calf injury.

The defending Twenty20 World Cup champions said Arafat was a doubt for the World Cup even before their training camp in Lahore began last week.

Skipper Shahid Afridi told Pakistan newspaper The News "Yasir Arafat is out because of the calf injury. He told us that he was not fit, after which we had to take a decision."

A replacement hasn't been named yet but it is expected that 20 year old Shahzaib Hasan will be called up to replace Arafat.

"Shahzaib is very much in the picture for us," Afridi said. "He is a good pinch-hitter and could be useful for us in the West Indies."

The news that Arafat will miss the World Cup is a blow for Pakistan who are already monitoring the fitness of pace bowler Umar Gul.

"We don't have that much time which is why there is going to be a fitness test for him on the 18th. Gul himself is very keen and confident which is why I'm hoping that he would get fully fit," said Afridi.
