Chigumbura leads Zimbabwe to surprise victory

Eric Chigumbura smashed a 33 ball 76 to help Zimbabwe claim a stunning 1 run victory over the Aussies at the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia.

Despite fielding a full strength bowling attack the Aussies were unable to break a 114 run partnership between Chigumbura and Craig Ervine which set up the victory after Zimbabwe had been reduced to 36-4.

There was some good news for the Aussies as Bret Lee bowled 4 overs after returning from a broken thumb which forced him out of the IPL. Lee picked up a wicket while conceding only 13 runs.

In reply the Aussies lost Shane Watson (2) early on but David Warner unleashed a brutal blitz smashing 5 sixes and 4 fours in his way to a 51 ball 72 before he was dismissed by Graeme Creamer in the13th over.

The loss of Warner left the Aussies with a mountain to climb but skipper Michael Clarke responded fantastically scoring a quick fire 49 which almost clinched the victory for the Aussies.

In a tense final over Clarke was dismissed from the penultimate delivery with the Aussies needing just 3 more runs for victory, Mitchell Johnson was run out off a wide before Bret Lee could only manage single to seal an amazing victory for Zimbabawe.
