Injury finally forces Muralitharan out

Muttiah Muralitharan's participation in the Twenty20 World Cup finally has come to end after his groin injury forced him out of the tournament.

After picking up the injury in Sri Lankas opening game against New Zealand over a week ago; Muralitharan has tried to play on but he has finally admitted defeat and will fly home to seek further medical advice.

Sri Lanka has responded by calling up left arm pace bowler Thilan Thushara to replace Muralitharan for the remainder of the tournament.

Muralitharan missed Sri Lankas group game against Zimbabwe but he did play in the Super Eight game against the West Indies. Despite bowling; Sri Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss said Murali "didn't look great".

With Muralitharan going home; tournament rules state that a player cannot return to the squad after being replaced.
