Kiwis claim victory after McCullum fireworks

New Zealand cruised to a comprehensive 59 run victory against Bangladesh thanks to a brilliant individual innings from Brendan McCullum who smashed the highest ever t20 International score.

The big hitting batman helped the Kiwis record an imposing total of 191-3 after being put into bat in their t20 World Cup group match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

The Kiwi smashed 123 runs from just 57 deliveries which included eleven boundaries and seven sixes to give the Kiwis the advantage after the early loss of Martin Guptill (11) who was dismissed by Abdur Razzak () in the fourth over.

Faced with an imposing run chase, the Tigers lost Tamin Iqbal (0), Shakib Al Hasan (21) and Mushfiquer Rahim (4) early on as they slipped to just 33-3 after 4.4 overs.

Nasir Hossain (50) and Mahmudullah (15) offered some resistants but with wickets falling at regular intervals the Tigers were restricted to a total of just 132-8 to suffer a heavy defeat.

Despite the early loss of Guptill, New Zealand never looked trouble as McCullum took control of the match before hitting hit the accelerator during the closing stages of the innings as he dispatched the Bangladesh bowlers around the ground.

With a century in his sights McCullum smashed two boundaries and a six off the bowling of Shafiul Islam in the 17th over before back to back fours in the penultimate over bowled by Elias Sunny to become the first person to score two t20 International centuries.
