Sri Lanka stumble in rain shortened run chase
t20 World Cup hosts Sri Lanka stumbled to a 32 run defeat in their rain shortened match against South Africa at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
Faced with a victory target of just 79 from seven overs, Sri Lanka were restricted to a total of 46-5 after heavy afternoon rain forced the game to be delayed by more than two overs.
With a tough target to chase, Sri Lanka were never really in the hunt with wicket falling at regular intervals with only Dilshan Munaweera (13) offering any resistants.
Having been put into bat by Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene, South Africa recorded a total of 78-4 thanks in part to AB de Villiers (30), Hashim Amla (16) and Faf du Plessis (13) to leave Sri Lanka with a tricky run chase.
