Battling Australia silence Indian big hitters
Indianís big hitting batsman were silenced by an impressive bowling display by Australia who restricted India to a total of just 140-7 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Having won the toss MS Dhoni decided to bat first but it proved to be the wrong decision as Australiaís bowlers came out on top with Shane Watson (3-34) and Pat Cummins (2-16) leading the way.
Gautam Gambhir looked the most effective batman scoring 17 runs from 12 balls but once he was run out at the end of third over India lost their way with Gambhir opening partner Irfan Pathan taking 30 balls to score 30 runs.
MS Dhoni (15) Virat Kohli (15), Yuvraj Singh (8) and Rohit Sharma (1) all struggled to make any impact as Brad Hogg (0-29) and Watson kept the Indianís middle order under wraps before a late cameo from Suresh Raina.
Raina smashed 26 runs from just 19 balls during a 7th wicket partnership of 33 with Ravichandran Ashwin (16) to leave the Aussies facing a run chase of 141 to secure victory against their old foes.
