The Kolkata Knight Riders hopes of reaching the t20 Champions League semi finals received a blow after they suffered a 19 run defeat against the West End Redbacks.
Having lost their openings game, the Knight Riders now face an uphill task of finishing in the top two and will go into their game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday, knowing a defeat will know end their hopes.
Set a victory target of 189, the IPL franchise was restricted to a just 169-9 thanks to an impressive bowling display from Nathan Lyon (1-17) and Gary Putland (3-31).
Manoj Tiwary (40) offered some but with the middle order failing to fire the Knight Riders were never in the hunt as the Redbacks bounced back from their 50 run defeat against the Chevrolet Warriors at the weekend.
Having won the toss, the Redbacks posted an impressive score of 188-5 thanks in no small part to a quick fire 70 for Callum Ferguson who smashed five boundaries and four sixes to give the Aussies the perfect start.
Daniel Christian (42) and Daniel Harris (26) offered support to help the Redbacks set the Knight Riders a tough run chase which proved just to much to chase down.
