The Adelaide Strikers got their KFC Big Bash League campaign off to the perfect start thanks to a comprehensive 67 run victory over the Melbourne Renegades at the Adelaide oval.
Daniel Harris (49) and Michael Klinger (46) lead the way with an opening stand of 86 to help the home side record an impressive total of 189-5 which proved to much for the stuttering Renegades to chase.
The Renegades lost Aaron Finch (4), Meyrick Buchanan (11) and Shahid Afridi (9) early on in their run chase before Glenn Maxwell (46) and Andrew McDonald (35) halted the slide with a 4th wicket stand of 53.
Despite the fight back, the Renegades lost their way once Maxwell and McDonald’s partnership was ended by Johan Botha who removed Maxwell in the 14th over.
McDonald quickly followed before the Renegades tail collapsed in quick fashion to leave the visitors all out in the 18th over having scored just 122 runs.
Having been put into bat the Strikers got off to a rapid start thanks to Harris and Klinger before Aiden Blizzard (30) and Cameron Borgas (28) added valuable runs in then middle order to leave the Renegades facing a big run chase.
