Luke Wright smashed the fastest ever KFC Big Bash t20 century to help the Melbourne Stars seal a much needed 19 run victory over the Hobart Hurricanes at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
The Englishman smashed an incredible 117 runs from just 60 deliveries which included eight boundaries and nine sixes as the Hurricanes bowlers were smashed around the ground in a devastating displaying of big hitting.
Wright brought up his century in style after he smashed a massive six over long off, off the bowling of Xavier Doherty from just the 44th delivery he had faced in the innings.
With runs flowing with ease Wright shared a massive opening stand of 172 with Rob Quiney (62) from 16.4 overs to put the Heat in control.
The partnership was finally broken by Naved-ul-Hasan when he dismissed Quiney and even though Wright followed two overs later the visitors still managed to post an imposing total of 203-3.
Faced with a mammoth run chase the Hurricanes got off to a fantastic start thanks to Travis Brit who smashed 51 runs from just 23 deliveries to record the fastest ever KFC Big Bash half century; a record set by Wright earlier in the evening.
Brit smashed three boundaries and five sixes to help the home side reach 63-1 after the early loss of Phil Jaques who was dismissed in the opening over.
With the Hurricanes starting to take control of the match James Faulkner made the much needed breakthrough; despite conceding 26 runs in the 5th over he bowled Brit at the end of the 9th over.
Owais Shah (55) and Tom Triffitt (21) continued to lead the chase but with wickets falling at regular intervals the Hurricanes slipped to a total of just 184-9 to lose their second straight match.
