Owais Shah held his nerve to seal a dramatic seven wicket victory for the Hobart Hurricanes who saw off the Melbourne Renegades with a ball to spare at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
Faced with a victory target of 174, Shah (49) and Phil Jaques (12) saw the home side past the Renegades total with 10 runs in the final over of the match which was bowled by Shahid Afridi.
Shah despatched the Pakistan bowler for a four through third man to leave the home side needing just one run from the final ball which Afridi bowled wide out of off stump to hand victory to the Hurricanes with a wide.
Jonathan Wells set the victory up with a quick fire 72 to put the home side in control despite the early loss of Mark Cosgrove who was bowled by Dirk Nannes (1-22) in the 4th over.
The defeat ended the Renegades faint hopes of reaching the KFC Big Bash semi finals despite an opening stand of 126 between Aaron Finch (67) and Brad Hodge (63).
The pair put the visitors in control but once Hodge was dismissed by Ben Laughlin (1-36) in the 14th over the home side fought their way back into the game.
Finch quickly followed and with wickets falling at regular intervals the Renegades were restricted to a total of just 173-4 which proved to be two runs short of a victorious total.
