Herschelle Gibbs smashed a quick fire half century to help the Perth Scorchers seal a 11 run victory over the Melbourne Stars to seal their place in the KFC Big Bash Final next weekend.

The South African was in devastating form, smashing 71 runs from just 46 deliveries including eleven boundaries to help the home side post an imposing total of 174-3 and in turn claim a place in this years t20 Champions League.

Mitchell Marsh (41), Paul Collingwood (31) and Marcus North (23) offered Gibbs support throughout his innings to leave the Stars facing a big run chase to overcome the home side.

Having reached the knock out stages of the tournament on the back of some big hitting from their top order the Stars suffered a disappointing time with the bat which saw them slump to 95-5 in the 13th over.

James Faulkner (38) and Luke Wright (33) got the visitors innings off to a good start despite the early loss of Rob Quiney (8) thanks to a second wicket stand of 67 but once Faulkner was dismissed by Brad Hogg (2-17) the Scorchers took control of the match.

Wright quickly followed and even though Matthew Wade (37) offered some resistant’s the Stars were unable to chase down the Scorchers total after they were restricted to just 163-8.
