Proteas final over fight back stuns New Zealand

South Africa completed a memorable fight back to record a stunning three run victory to seal a 2-1 series victory against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland to start their tour of in fine style.

The Kiwis looked on course to seal victory with an over to spare but a dramatic collapse by the middle order left them needing six runs off the final delivery with proved to much for the hosts to overcome.

Faced with a victory target of 166, the hosts enjoyed a trouble free run chase after an opening stand of 65 between Rob Nicol (33) and Martin Guptill (26) which put the hosts on top early on.

Despite losing the openers in quick succession at the end of the power play overs, Jesse Ryder (52) had looked to have sealed victory for the home side before he was dismissed in the penultimate over.

With Ryder back in the dugout the Kiwis still only needed seven runs from the final over but they lost Nathan McCullum (0) and Doug Bracewell (0) to suffer a stunning collapse and hand the series victory to the Proteas.

It had looked like it would be another disappointing night for the South Africans who struggled to force any momentum with the bat with wickets falling at regular intervals to thwart their innings.

Fresh from his record breaking innings at Seddon Park, Richard Levi could only manage 11 runs before he was dismissed by James Franklin (1-23) in the third over.

JP Duminy (38) and Hashim Amla (33) offered some hope but neither player was able to turn their score into a higher contribution as the tourists recorded a total of 165-7.
