A half century from Gautam Gambhir helped the Kolkata Knight Riders cruise to an eight wicket victory over the Kings XI Punjab at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.
Having been set a victory target of 125, the Knight Riders barely broke into a sweat as they chased down the Kings XI total with over three overs to spare to record their third victory of the tournament.
Gambhir (66) lead the way with a 36 ball half century which included five boundaries and a six against a King XI bowling attack which lacked a cutting edge and failed to create many wicket taking opportunities.
Jacques Kallis (30), Brendon McCullum (15) and Manvinder Bisla (11) offered Gambhir support as the Knight Riders inflicted the Kings XI’s third defeat during the group stages.
Having won the toss the home side batted first but they failed to gain any momentum with only Adam Gilchrist (40) and Shaurn Marsh (33) offering any sort of attacking endeavour.
Once Gilchrist had retired hurt and Marsh was dismissed by Bret Lee (2-26) in the 14th over, the home sides innings went off the boil and they could only reach 124-7.
