Sourav Ganguly picked up his first ever wickets in the IPL to help the Pune Warriors beat the Delhi DareDevils by 20 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
Having scored 41 runs with the bat earlier on in the evening, Ganguly (2-27) picked up the vital wickets of Kevin Pietersen (32) and Irfan Pathan (15) during the home sides run chase.
Faced with a victory target of 193, the DareDevils lost Mahela Jaywardene (7) early on before Pieterson and Virender Sehwag traded sixes during a 2nd wicket stand of 75 which was ended by Ganguly in the 10th over.
Pathan and then Sehwag (57) quickly followed as the Warriors took control of the game and with wicket falling at regular intervals the visitors remained on top to record a vital victory.
Having batted first the Warriors recorded an impressive total of 192-3 thanks in no small part to Jessie Ryder who scored 86 from just 58 balls to pit the Warriors on top.
The Kiwi smashed seven boundaries and four sixes on his way to an IPL career best before he was bowled by South African Morne Morkel (3-50) in the final over.
Ganguly and Steven Smith (34) offered support to leave the DareDevils facing a tricky run chase which proved in vain thanks to the heroics of Ganguly with the ball.
