AB de Villiers stunned the Deccan Chargers with a devastating 17 ball blitz to help the Royal Challengers secure a five wicket victory at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The South African came to the crease at the start of the 16th over with the Royal Challengers still needing another 65 runs to overcome the Chargers who had recorded a total of 181-2.
With the home side heading towards defeat, de Villiers (47) smashed two boundaries and two sixes off the bowling of Dale Steyn (0-30) to kick start the Royals Challengers innings.
He continued his blitz with two more boundaries off the bowling of Anand Rajan (1-44) before he dispatched Rajan’s third delivery of the 18th over for a six to leave the home side on the verge of victory.
The formalities were completed by Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad (4) who scored a boundary to spark wild celebrations in the home dug out and around the ground.
Faced with a victory target of 182, the Royal Challengers got off to a good start thanks to Tillakaratne Dilshan who scored 71 runs but with wickets falling at regular intervals the home side looked in trouble until de Villiers intervened.
If proved to be another disappointing day for the Chargers who slumped to a eighth defeat despite fine efforts from Shikhar Dhawan (73), Daniel Harris (47) and Cameron White.
