The Royals Challengers Bangalore were denied a place in the IPL playoffs after they crashed to a nine run defeat against the Deccan Chargers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The visitors came into the game knowing a victory against the last place Chargers would allow them to seal the last place in the playoffs but the defeat means the Chennai Super Kings enter the knock out stages instead because of a better run rate.
Despite restricting the Chargers to a total of just 132-7, the Royal Challengers were unable to chase down the victory target after they ended the innings 123-9.
Virat Kohli (42) and Saurabh Tiwary (30) offered the most hope but with runs at a premium the visitors came up just short to allow the defending champions to fight another day.
It proved to be a happy day for the Chargers who ensured they wouldn’t finish bottom of the table thanks to their fourth victory of the tournament which allowed them to move ahead of the Pune Warriors.
JP Duminy led the way with a quick 74 which included four boundaries and five sixes to help the home side posts a total of 132-7 which proved elusive for the Royal Challengers to chase down.
